Welcoming the blessed month of Ramadhan 1445H

Work on these 6 virtues during the blessed month and give your utmost effort to make this year’s Ramadan feel like it could be your final Ramadan!

  1. The gates of paradise are opened, and the gates of Hell are locked and the devils are chained.
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When there comes the month of Ramadan, the gates of mercy are opened, and the gates of Hell are locked and the devils are chained. (Sahih Muslim)

This is an opportunity for us to repent, learn how to control our desires, and increasing in doing good deeds in getting ourselves closer to the almighty.

2. Month of Ramadhan, The month of Quran.

Ramaḍân is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the decisive authority. So whoever is present this month, let them fast. But whoever is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramaḍân˺. Allah intends ease for you, not hardship, so that you may complete the prescribed period and proclaim the greatness of Allah for guiding you, and perhaps you will be grateful. (Surah Al-Baqarah 185)

It’s an opportunity during this blessed month, for us to get closer to the words of God, be it learning how to read it, understanding it and applying it in our daily lives.

3. There lies a Night of Decree, the night which is better than 1000 months!

Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Quran˺ down on the Night of Glory.
And what will make you realize what the Night of Glory is?
The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months. (Surah Al-Qadr 1-3)

Try to imagine getting the reward of 1 night, which is equivalent to 83 months worth of good deeds? This shows the abundance mercy of Allah for his servants. Neglect it? I rather not!

4. During the nights of Ramadhan, Some are freed from the hellfire.

‘You who desire what is good, come forward, and you who desire evil refrain.’ Some are freed from hell by God, and that happens every night.” HR Tirmidhi & Ibn Majah

This again shows the amplitude of Allah’s mercy, towards an extend where some of the dwellers of hell are freed out of HIS upmost mercy.

5. The one who is fasting is in a state of his dua to be accepted by the Almighty.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said:
There are three whose supplications are not turned back: A just ruler, and a fasting person until he breaks his fast. And, the supplication of one who has been wronged is raised by Allah up to the clouds on the Day of Resurrection, and the gates of heaven are opened for it, and Allah says, ‘By My Might I will help you (against the wrongdoer) even if it is after a while.’ (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Make as much dua as you can during the blessed month, as you are in a state of dua istijabah during fasting.

6. Making sadaqah as part of increasing your good deeds during the blessed month.

Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani narrated that:
The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever provides the food for a fasting person to break his fast with, then for him is the same reward as his (the fasting person’s), without anything being diminished from the reward of the fasting person.” (Jami’ At-Tirmidhi)

Don’t miss the opportunity of getting the reward of providing iftar for those breaking their fast. On top of that, each dollar donated to charity can be multiplied by 700 folds as mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah: 261

May this Ramadhan be a means of expiation of our sins, strengthening our Iman and increasing our good deeds. May it be the most meaningful Ramadhan for each and everyone of us!

Allahumma Ballighna Ramadhan!
